Kia's Call to Arms
July 20, 2015 (Toronto, Canada) - The Canadian home crowd and teammates erupt in celebration with Kia Nurse as she scores a basket at the 2015 Pan American gold medal basketball game against the USA. Canada trailed 12-23 in the first quarter until the team took control of the match, bolstered by the home crowd and Kia Nurse who scored 33 points in the 81-73 victory. The victory earned Canada it's first ever basketball gold medal at the Pan American games.
Kia Nurse was selected to be Team Canada flagbearer at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am closing ceremonies.
Zak's Golden Acceleration
August 14, 2015 (Toronto, Canada) - Canadian star athlete Zak Madell speeds into the end zone to score a goal in the gold medal wheelchair rugby match against USA at the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games. Zak Madell was an unstoppable force throughout the tournament and was brilliant in the gold medal match where he scored 34 goals in the thrilling 57-54 victory.
At the age of 10, Zak Madell lost his fingers and legs due to a septic staph infection. This did not stop Madell from pursuing athletics as he participated in sledge hockey and wheelchair basketball before discovering his calling in wheelchair rugby. Madell was selected to be Team Canada flagbearer at the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am closing ceremonies.
